Professor Sir Richard Sorabji wrote this biography of Allan Monkhouse’s life using the memoirs drafted by his late uncle in his older years along with family letters and the treasure trove of Allan’s photographic collection going back to the 1880s. Richard felt compelled to piece together Allan’s memoirs to create a biography that gives us a window on history.
Richard Sorabji is honorary fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford, and fellow of King’s College, London, the author of sixteen volumes of books of his own and editor of well over a hundred in the History of Philosophy, latterly including inter-cultural studies.
He also wrote the biography of his aunt Cornelia Sorabji, Opening Doors: The Untold Story of Cornelia Sorabji, Reformer, Lawyer and Champion of Women’s Rights in India. Penguin India, I B Tauris and Palgrave, 2010. You can learn more about Professor Sir Richard Sorabji's work on his website.
